“From 1919 to 1933, west Berlin was a ‘cradle of the Bauhaus’,” says art historian Simone Oelker – even though there is no building in today’s Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district that can be clearly attributed to this style. On the other hand, however, architects such as Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius were active here, designing parts of the large-scale housing estate Siemensstadt (also known as the Ringsiedlung) in Charlottenburg-Nord. Other architects created buildings that were modern for their time, in which Bauhaus influences are recognisable. Or was it rather the other way round? “The Bauhaus merely took up contemporary trends,” says Oelker, referring to “New Building” or “New Objectivity”. How can one pass on and share one’s professional experience? The Centre for Continuing Education (ZEW) at Potsdam University of Applied Sciences offers just such an opportunity. My concept idea on the topic of ‘curating’ met with great interest there. Since 2015, my colleagues Ursula Breymayer (M.A., Berlin) and Ingo Plato (Architect BDA, resd Cologne) and I have been offering this training course. Through exhibition visits, practical exercises and theoretical expertise, we deliver this training in a practical manner. The professional diversity of the participants and the exhibition themes they bring with them always make it an exciting and enriching event for us, which is always fully booked.
